Addition to a groupshow curated by Gabriel Lester:
Ω @ De Elektriciteitsfabriek, Den Haag (2021)
These posters are an addition to the groupshow 'Ohm' @ De Elektriciteitsfabriek in Den Haag.
For this groupshow Lester asked me to create an artwork based around the idea of the unfinished story.
The posters I created for this show are edited posters from the 19th and 20th century found in the Huntington Digital Library. I removed all of the readable information from the posters and digitally distorted the image. What is left from the original poster, is a vague memory, stripped of its original meaning, open for new interpretation.
About the show: Electricity Factory presents Ω
On September 23, the exhibition Ω (Om, Ohm, Omega) opens at the Electricity Factory. While wandering in the factory’s turbine hall, the exhibition happens to the visitor, much as life happens.
Upon first visiting the old turbine hall, it became immediately clear that the building is a spectacle. Instead of it being relegated to the background, it is a space from which the artworks emerge.
The makers of the exhibition want the visitor to experience the exhibition first hand, without any prior knowledge, except for a few associations that were important during the creation process.
Using the principle of an open music session or a spontaneous collaboration by a selection of international artists and performers, the exhibition is like an echo in space, a kind of post-narrative moment. Many of the works are symbiotic, where existing works are reinterpreted or performed in a new way. The idea of bringing artworks together in a manner that explores what a group exhibition can be, originates from the desire to collectively activate compositions. Something to be experienced, to be discovered. Something that stirs curiosity and does not court the desire to find uniform answers.
